The challenge

Quality language-learning tools were available only in English or Russian. Tajik-speaking learners — especially outside Dushanbe — needed an engaging, affordable app in their native language that works on modest smartphones and mobile internet, and teachers needed a way to guide students between lessons.

Our solution

We built VozhaOmuz end to end: a Flutter app for Android and iPhone, a web version, a Go backend with real-time battles and a payment service for local cards and App Store purchases. Microsoft Azure scores pronunciation, AI grades speaking and writing tasks, and video courses run on protected streaming with personal curators. Schools and learning centres connect their students with a promo code and get a curator dashboard with AI-assisted analytics.

What’s inside

Words and games

  • 47 topic sets, 20,000+ words with pictures, audio and three difficulty levels
  • 6 game types: translation choice, memory pairs, listening, spelling, true/false, pronunciation
  • Spaced repetition: words return after 2, 7 and 14 days — after a mistake, the next day
  • Sets download once — learning works offline and syncs later
  • “My words” and custom sets with photos and voice recordings

Pronunciation and AI

  • Pronunciation scoring with Microsoft Azure: accuracy, fluency and completeness on a 100-point scale
  • “Speak with AI” and “Write with AI” tasks: the AI gives a score and highlights mistakes
  • Dialogue trainer: a role-play answered by voice, every line is scored

Video courses

  • Catalogue with search, levels A1–C2, trailers, ratings and reviews
  • Units made of steps: video, flashcards, exercises, tests, materials — 16 exercise types
  • Protected video: encryption, up to 3 devices per account, screen-recording block
  • Test history with answer review and a PDF certificate at the end

Curator and group

  • Personal curator chat with text, voice messages, photos and reactions
  • Unit review: the curator approves a unit or returns it for revision
  • Assignments with deadlines, group chats per unit and cohort-based starts
  • Course home with a 6-step daily plan and progress to the certificate

Motivation

  • Real-time battles: rooms of up to 20 players, coin stakes and bots of four levels
  • Rankings for the day, week, month and year; 15 achievements
  • Day streaks with rewards; until the day is done, a countdown to midnight on the lock screen (Live Activity on iPhone, a notification on Android)
  • Coins for learning, spent on energy, courses and prizes

Widgets

  • 7 widgets on iPhone and 6 on Android: a word to learn, continue the course, today’s plan, course progress, review and day streak
  • iPhone lock screen: word card (tap to reveal the translation), plan, progress, review and streak
  • Android: a word card on the lock screen with “Translation” and “Next” buttons
  • Words for the widget to choose from: automatic, words due for review, course words, or any category and lesson
  • Tapping a widget opens the right place: learning those words, review or the next step of the unit
  • The word changes every 30 minutes without opening the app

For schools and learning centres

  • Students join with the centre’s promo code
  • The centre’s own word sets are shown first; centre tag in the rankings
  • Curator dashboard: messages, student list, analytics, AI-assisted student review, assignments

Premium, payments and accounts

  • Subscriptions for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months with promo-code discounts
  • Payments via Alif: Korti Milli, Alif, Salom, Visa and Mastercard; App Store on iPhone
  • Courses can be bought separately and paid in two parts
  • Sign-in by phone or e-mail code, Google or Apple; up to 5 accounts per phone; QR login on the web; on Android the SMS code is filled in automatically
